Dear Friend,

Planning for citywide water and sanitation has been highlighted as a key area of intervention by all governments during the pandemic and to be better prepared in future. Increased national budget allocation in 2021 in India, Bangladesh and other countries demonstrate the commitment from governments towards supporting the required reform agenda.

In India, the national flagship programmes -   Swachh Bharat Mission 2.0, AMRUT and Jal Jeevan Mission clearly set priorities for all villages, towns and cities to plan for sustainability of Open Defecation Free status and think out of box to ensure adequate water supply. Key focus areas of reforms include city level gap assessment including water balance, aquifer mapping for groundwater management, water bodies conservation for sustainable water management including wastewater treatment and reuse of treated wastewater and effective septage management. This reform requires continuous capacity building support of managers, regulators and practitioners to help them create requisite enabling frameworks and implementation on ground.

Due to global pandemic and travel restriction by governments the on-site training by School of Water and Waste (SWW) were temporarily suspended at AAETI during 2020. However, the School with its considerable experience in developing state of art teaching - learning quickly adjusted to the new normal through online capacity development activities. This issue of the newsletter will provide you a summary of activities undertaken during March - December 2020.

In this endeavor, we are pleased to put forward this third bi-monthly newsletter exhibiting, blogs, updates, publications, upcoming training, events and more.

I also take this opportunity to share with you that since January 2021 - AAETI is fully operational and we are offering regularly conducting residential training.

We look forward to hearing impact stories of change from all our alumni, partners and readers.

Your suggestions and feedback are welcome. Please do share them with us
