Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR) is a global public health threat today, and one that has
been recognised as a silent pandemic. More and more antibiotics are becoming
ineffective, and infectious diseases are becoming difficult to treat due to this
phenomenon. AMR accelerates due to the misuse and overuse of antimicrobials in
human health, animal health, food-animal production and crop production. In addition,
environment plays a significant role: waste from farms, factories, community and healthcare
settings contributing to the emergence and spread of AMR through environmental routes. The
imperative is to rethink and re-invent the way we do business with our food and environment.
We have to prevent pollution and the overuse of chemicals.
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is organising a week-long campaign which will
include webinars, online special coverage etc during the World Antimicrobial Awareness Week,
2021 (November 18-24, 2021). This year, our theme is ‘Rethinking the AMR agenda’, which will
discuss the possibilities and ways ahead across the development, conservation, environmental
and prevention platforms.
Join us for our first webinar of the series, which will focus on the ‘development agenda’
-- how can the world continue to increase its food production without depending on chemicals
and antimicrobials. |
