Dear Readers,
India witnessed significantly successful events over the past few weeks. In the special context of RE, there have been important news and developments including the successful landing of solar powered Chandrayaan-3 to strategic global understanding on scaling RE for a better future in the recently concluded G-20 Summit. One of the key developments is the formal announcement of the Global Biofuel Alliance (GBA) intended to improve biofuel production, trade, and consumption across borders as well as India’s intent to become a RE technology manufacturing hub as reflected in its BRICS declaration. These stories are covered in detail and presented in this newsletter for your further reading.
The recently concluded Africa Climate Summit reiterated and pushed for long pending action on climate financing and reforms to harness Africa’s renewable energy potential. The need for global financial reforms was emphasized yet again to de-risk climate investments in Africa, a continent with vast RE potential and abundantly available critical minerals.
While RE has been playing a key role in the energy transition globally and in India, it is also important to look at the spill-over effects of scaling up RE resources such as solar, wind, hydropower and bioenergy/biopower on food security in the future in India. Being the most populous country with limited land resources and the burden of feeding 1.4 billion people and increasing, this is a matter of concern in the future.

Paula Caballero (right) and Patti Londoño, two Colombian government officialswho, in 2011,advocated for the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at a UN conference in New York.
