APRIL 2024

Dear Educators, FOREWORD

Greetings from the Green Educators’ Network (GEN) of the Centre for Science and Environment!

We present to you the latest edition of our monthly newsletter, EarthWise. As advocates for progressive education in environmental studies, we are committed to providing you with a valuable resource that goes beyond the conventional boundaries of learning.

This month’s focus is on a pandemic that is silently creeping upon us — antimicrobial resistance (AMR). AMR is indeed scary. It happens when bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites that cause infections in us become resistant to the medicines we use to kill them. This month’s newsletter features the latest report by CSE on challenges with respect to AMR in lower and middle-income countries.

As we navigate the complexities of environmental studies, we recognise the pivotal role you play in imparting knowledge and fostering a sense of responsibility among your students. In this journey, EarthWise aims to provide you with well-researched articles, resources, and stories to aid your teaching.

We firmly believe that insights from educators like yourselves can be pivotal in shaping the course of environment education in the country. Should you wish to provide any feedback or contribute to the newsletter, please feel free to write to us.

We look forward to hearing your thoughts and feedback.
Please write to us at sakshi.uniyal@cseindia.org.

Warmly,
The University Programme Team

LEAD STORY

That bacteria can kill us is once again becoming a concern after over half a century. The world is more conscious than ever that the power of antibiotics to treat infections is silently getting eroded. Known as antimicrobial resistance (AMR), or antibiotic resistance in particular, this crisis has begun to get the attention it deserves. The momentum to save the effectiveness of existing antibiotics is growing. Read what the latest CSE report says on the issue. Down To Earth
