Dear Readers,
Greetings from the Centre for Science and Environment! We are pleased to present the latest issue of our Energy Transitions newsletter.
The second month of 2024 brought significant announcements focusing on scaling of renewable energy deployment. The Interim Union Budget, unveiled on February 1, 2024, showcased a range of initiatives, including the strengthening of rooftop solar, the provision of viability gap funding for offshore wind energy projects, and support for manufacturing and charging infrastructure to boost the electric vehicle ecosystem. A key highlight of the budget's energy push was the Pradhan Mantri Suryodaya Yojana ("PMSY"), aiming to install rooftop solar power systems in 10 million households.
Following the budget, the India Energy Week (IEW) took place in Goa from February 6 to 9. During the IEW inaugural ceremony, the Government of India emphasized that India's oil demand is expected to double by 2045, with the government aiming to increase the share of natural gas in the energy mix from 6 % to 15 % through a $67 billion investment over the next six years. More recently, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural gas has released the scheme guidelines for providing financial assistance to Compressed Biogas (CBG) producers for procurement of biomass aggregation machinery with financial allocation of Rs 565 crores for 4 years to strengthen the upstream feedstock for 100 CBG projects.
For a more in-depth understanding of these announcements, we encourage you to peruse our newsletter. Additionally, we welcome you to explore our publications, web articles, and upcoming training programs, all of which offer valuable insights into the dynamic renewable energy sector in India.
Thank you for your ongoing support.
