Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) organised a Regional Media Briefing Workshop in Guwahati on ‘Air Quality, Urban Mobility and Health’, which focused on the linkages between the three and also on recent researches and developments in this subject. The Workshop participants will be briefed by medical professionals, air pollution experts and regulators
Across India, growing volumes of vehicles on city roads are turning the dream of urban mobility into a nightmare: traffic conditions are deteriorating, air pollution is hitting the peak, cities are grinding to a halt, and thousands are dying from air pollution-induced diseases.
Earlier this year, a network of international health bodies including the World Health Organization had released the latest Global Burden of Disease (GBD) report. The report showed air pollution has become one of the top 10 killers in the world and one of the top five in India.
The Workshop was open to journalists working in the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Tripura, and Sikkim.
