Waste management is a critical issue for Indian cities. Increasing population levels, rapid urbanization and rise in living standards have greatly accelerated the generation of waste in our country. Regulators involved in waste management have to face a number of challenges to provide an efficient and effective system to the citizens. CSE’s five day programme on Waste Management addressed the needs of regulators on the issues of waste management. The programme covered municipal solid waste, hazardous waste and bio-medical waste which are under the purview of State Pollution Control Boards and Pollution Control Committee.
It discussed national and international laws applicable for waste management and provided in-depth knowledge on suitable methods for recycle, reuse and coprocessing of wastes and scientific disposal of wastes. The training programme consisted of lectures and field trips to enable the participants to learn the best practices in inspection, monitoring and compliance assurance of waste handling facilities during design, construction and operational phase.
