Way back in 2018, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had publicly announced the country’s war on single-use plastics. In 2022, India went a step forward towards fulfilling that pledge by banning 19 single-use plastic (SUP) items through the second amendment in its Plastic Waste Management Rules, 2016. The ban came into force from July 1, 2022.
Has the ban seen any degree of success? How is it being implemented? What are the strategies being implemented? Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) welcomes you to the second online lecture in its Practitioner’s Knowledge Building Series – on single-use plastics and implementation of the ban on them – with two key experts who are working this on the ground.
The lecture will focus on the challenges faced by urban local body and state officials, and what approaches can be adapted to ensure enforcement and implementation of the ban. The speakers will also discuss the role of citizens and the reporting mechanisms developed by the Central Pollution Control Board for grievance redressal.
Note: This event is for building knowledge and awareness. CSE will not provide any certificate for attendance.
