A 15-days online course on Lake Rejuvenation and Groundwater Management in Urban Areas was conducted by Water Team of CSE from July 16-31, 2024. This forms the first part of the integrated course being organized by the team. Second part of which would be an advanced residential training and shall be held in January, 2025.
The training had a total of 62 participants from across the country. The participants varied from implementers, architects, government officials, students, professors, school teachers, NGO’s and independent researchers.
The objective of the training was to introduce participants on basics of water body restoration-its linkage to flooding and groundwater recharge. The participants were introduced to legislative aspects related to lakes and groundwater recharge. Participants were also introduced to practical aspects of lake and aquifer mapping through live case studies, common mistakes done while making a project report for implementation, and the practical solutions to implement the solutions. Few successful case studies taken up where government and community has come forward to restore water bodies or harvest rainwater at individual or community level. The training aimed at providing basic knowledge, and share best management practices on training topics. The course was self-paced one including presentations, reading materials and recorded videos supported by case studies, which the participants can learn at their own convenient time. Live sessions with experts every alternate day and doubt clearing sessions were organized to interact with the participants on the topics covered.
The participants interacted well through the online Moodle platform through discussions and experience sharing. The course covered different aspects of the topics required for a practitioner to work on the ground to solve the emerging issues related to restoration of water bodies and aquifer recharge.
