A 10 day online course on managing greywater in ruralareas was conducted by Water Team of CSE from February 3-12, 2025.
The training had a total of 51 participants from across the country and global south. The participants varied from implementers, architects, government officials, students, professors, school teachers, NGO’s and independent researchers.
The objective of the training was to introduce participants on basics of greywater management in rural areas. The participants were introduced to legislative aspects related to greywater. Participants were also introduced to practical aspects of mapping greywater through live case studies and various tools were taken up which can aid proper mapping of greywater in rural areas as proper planning can only lead to sustainable implementation. The course also talked about technical solutions of managing greywater onsite and offsite (at community and village level). Lastly, reuse aspects of greywater was talked about as proper treatment and ensuring reuse can decrease pressure on fresh water resources in the country. All the sessions disseminated case studies to help participants learn about various factors attributing to success and failed implementation and sustainability.
The training was a mix of live and self-study sessions where approximately 8 hours of live and 3 hours of self-paced study sessions were organized over a period of 10 days. The training aimed at providing basic knowledge, and share best management practices on training topics. The course was included presentations, reading materials and recorded videos supported by case studies, which the participants can learn at their own convenient time. Live sessions with experts and doubt clearing sessions were organized to interact with the participants on the topics covered.
The participants interacted well through the online Moodle platform through discussions and experience sharing. The course covered different aspects of the topics required for a practitioner to work on the ground to solve the emerging issues related to greywater management in India and global south
