The Sustainable food systems team at the Centre for Science and Environment successfully organized a one-day online Workshop on Roadmap to Reduce the Use of Critically Important Antimicrobials (CIAs) in the Indian Dairy Sectoron February 25, 2022. The workshop aimed to take specific inputs from experts and stakeholders for the roadmap to conserve the use of CIAs in the Indian dairy sector and bought together about 30-35 experts/stakeholders from state animal husbandry departments, research and academicinstitutions, milk federations/producers, WHO, and food and drug regulators. The discussions revolved around and were in the context of how the use of a particular CIA can be reduced and itsmisuse can be eliminated. Several other aspects related toanimal husbandry, infection prevention and control, diagnostics, vaccines, disease management,surveillance, biosecurity, alternatives, waste management, availability of antibiotics and veterinaryextension services, research and education, awareness and capacity building were also discussed. The findings of the Indian dairy sector from the report ‘Conserving the use of Critically Important Antimicrobials in Food-Producing Animals’ were also presented to all attendees.
