Rainwater Harvesting Best Practices, Challenges and Opportunities

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has been an official knowledge partner of the Ministry of Water and Environment of the Republic of Uganda since 2020. The partnership aims to capacitate officials of the ministry on source sustainability through groundwater recharge, rainwater harvesting, wastewater management and safe toilets. CSE has helped the partners to learn about the best management practices, legislations, policies and strategies on water and wastewater from India.

Uganda is not only trying to reach its climate goal for managing water sources and controlling floods, there is a deepening regulatory interest to develop and tighten the regulatory platform to drive rainwater harvesting technologies across the country. The country is now moving towards finalising its first rainwater harvesting (RWH) legislation. To help officials and public representatives from Uganda in this initiative, CSE and the Ministry of Water and Environment have planned this exclusive Exposure Visit to India – specifically to the state of Tamil Nadu, considered to be the cradle of India’s RWH experience.
