RE Round Table 6 Rooftop Solar

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) invites all interested stakeholders to its 6th Renewable Energy Online Round Table on `Rooftop Solar: Lessons from State Policies and Performance'. This Round Table is a part of a series being organised by CSE on some key issues in renewable energy.

India has seen strong progress in the renewable energy sector, particularly utility scale solar energy. However, rooftop solar project deployment has fallen short of national aspirations. The market potential of rooftop solar is estimated at 124 GW with an official national target of 40 GW by 2022. However, today it stands at close to only 6 GW. The Covid-19 crisis has also delayed deployment.

This Round Table will discuss the barriers in deploying rooftop solar, focusing on lessons from state-level approaches and how states have performed to facilitate rooftop solar in their jurisdictions. It will explore opportunities and challenges posed by rooftop solar and ways of fostering dialogue for a way forward.
