There are methods to monitor and assess regional influence of industrial pollution. While the science for such methods needs to be strengthened quickly to support air quality management, it is possible to design action, processes, systems and capacity based on certain best practice approach and cost-effective technologies for effective interventions and improvement. Past studies show that industries contribute about 30 per cent of the total air pollution in India. Apart from the standalone industries, there are more than 4000 industrial parks/estates/clusters in India. The environment management within an industrial area is an uphill task for the regulatory body, industrial corporation or centers and municipal bodies due to the presence of significant number of industries as well as varying raw material requirement, processes and waste streams which emerges from these industries. In addition to it, the infrastructure development within an industrial area also plays an important role in managing the air quality of the region. Accordingly, measures have to be taken to make development of industrial areas more sustainable.
In this regard, CSE is organizing four days training programme on "Developing air quality management plan for industrial areas". The aim of the programme is to build capacity of the participants on methodology to inventorize and further develop strategies to reduce air pollution from industrial sources to achieve an overall objective of clean air. The course will focus on identification of issues, inventorisation of pollution sources, sector specific best practices, role of small and medium scale industries, learning skills to conceive phase-wise action plans for pollution abatement using data-points and strategies for its implementation.
