CSE, in collaboration with Ekta Parishad, conducted a roundtable in Rourkela (Kalunga) on the MMDR (draft) Act 2010. The objective was to expose the direct stakeholders like affected people and grassroot level NGOs to the draft act and the special provision of 'profit sharing'. The meeting was attended by stakeholders from the states of Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Jharkhand. The meeting opened with a presentation from Chandra Bhushan, deputy director general, CSE on the provisions of the act and what they might imply. This was followed by a discussion where people raised concerns like 'why were we not even informed about such a draft', 'how will we get this 26%', 'will they take my land even if i don't want to give it', etc. This clearly brings out the fact that people who will really get affected if this MMDR (draft) Act becomes a law were not made a part of the law making process.
