Use/misuse of antibiotics in food systems is recognized as a driver of AMR including the fisheries sector. However, the Indian fisheries sector is huge and is the third largest fish producer in the world. The sector plays an important role in livelihood, nutrition, and economy of India, and its growth should be sustainable.
Part of this can happen through leveraging and scaling up preventive approaches which can help reduce the occurrence of diseases at its first place and/or help minimize use of drugs including antibiotics in fisheries sector. In this regard, the workshop involves discussions on status, challenges and possibilities w.r.t. science, policy and practice in areas related to resilient breeds, alternatives, biosecurity, rearing systems etc.
The online meeting will involve stakeholders and experts such as from concerned departments/institutes, industry and academia. The deliberations are expected to facilitate develop a greater understanding way forward towards sustainable fish production systems.
