Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is making efforts for policy intervention and implementation for pollution abatement in the cities of the Ganga River basin as part of the rejuvenated national efforts to clean this major river in the sub continent. Under this initiative CSE water programme aims capacitating Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) on water and waste in Ganga basin cities on small scale, onsite waste water and septage management systems. The aim of this project is to capacitate ULBs in preparation of City Sanitation Plans (CSPs) for select cities in Ganga basin; provide laboratory-based technical & documentation support to pilot/model projects that offer on-site and off-site demonstration of various technologies and develop technology options, testing protocols, monitoring and data validation procedures for wastewater treatment and septage/faecal sludge management. Aim: Sensitisation and knowledge enhancement of city officials in Ganga basin cities/ towns on preparation of city sanitation plan focusing on mainstreaming septage management.
Objectives:
Knowledge sharing on the impacts of inadequate sanitation and its challenges faced by towns / cities in the Ganga basin
To understand the importance of developing City Sanitation Plan (CSP) and create awareness on benefits of city wide sanitation
To inform about the importance of septage/faecal sludge management for achieving improved sanitation in Indian towns/cities – tools, concepts and techniques
