Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi in partnership with Swacch Bharat Mission (SBM), Ministry of Urban Development(MoUD) and National Mission Clean Ganga (NMCG), Ministry of Water Resources for River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Government of India organized two day workshop cum regional conclave on understanding excreta flow diagram and city sanitation planning. Participants included state mission Directors of SBM /AMRUT, SPMG – NMCG, Mayors and Commissioners of the target flagship cities/towns in Ganga basin, the flagship towns/ cities also include the 11 cities, where CSE had prepared the SFD under phase 1 of SFD promotion initiative.
The conclave was clubbed with the sensitization workshop on ‘City Sanitation Plans and effective septage and faecal sludge management’ for Ganga Basin cities. The platform was used to introduce the already developed 11 SFDs to all the target cities. The applications of SFD were also discussed in detail, apart from understanding how to read an SFD. Unlike SFD phase 1, phase 2 of the initiative is based on demand driven approach. ULBs which are intend to use SFD as a planning tool, to improve their City Sanitation plans, or otherwise, can make use of the already functional helpdesk.
