Orientation conclave on Air Quality Management in Non-attainment cities of Odisha: Building Strategies for Clean Air

Purpose of the event and future agenda:

On June 4th, 2019, CSE in association with Department of Forest and Environment and Odisha Pollution Control Board organised a state-level dialogue in Bhubaneswar to kick start the strategies for implementation of the approved clean air action plans for six non-attainment cities of Odisha including Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Angul, Talcher, Balasore and Rourkela.


The conclave was inaugurated by the Chief Secretary of the state, Aditya Prasad Padhiand other prominent officials which includesSuresh Chandra Mahapatra, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Environment and Forests; G MathiVathanan, Principle Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Department; DebiduttaBiswal, Member Secretary, State Pollution Control Board and K Murugesan, Director, Environment and Special Secretary, Department of Forests and Environment laid out the challenges and the way forward to fast track change in the state. 

The event was attended by 96 participants from the six non-attainment cities which includesDepartments of Environment, Transport, State Pollution Control Board, district administration, municipal corporations, traffic police, Industry, development sector, institutions, media, and other stakeholders. 

The Clean Air Action Plan has been developed and approved by the CPCB and the process of implementation has been flagged off. Experts in the area of air quality monitoring and assessment, transport, power plants, mining and waste management addressed the gathering to provide knowledge support to the strategy implementation. 

This dialogue will be taken forward to enable knowledge sharing to build capacity, design advanced strategies and strengthen implementation for cleaner air.
