Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), a New Delhi, India based public interest research and advocacy organisation in collaboration with National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), Kenya is organising a Stakeholder Workshop: Programme for clean air, clean vehicles and rapid electrification in Kenya on March 10, 2025 at Eka Hotel along Mombasa Road (Southern Bypass Interchange) in Nairobi, Kenya.
This stakeholder workshop will bring together officials from the concerned Ministries/departments/agencies involved with clean air action planning in Kenya and other relevant stakeholders. The workshop will deliberate on clean air action planning strategies including strengthening air quality monitoring and management, clean vehicles and fuels roadmap, on-road emissions management, vehicle electrification and sustainable mobility initiatives. Experience sharing from India will make cross learning more effective to chart a clean air roadmap.
NEMA is Kenya’s environmental regulator established under the Environmental Management and Coordination Act No. 8 of 1999 (EMCA) as the principal instrument of Government for the implementation of all policies relating to environment in the country. NEMA has taken several steps to improve air quality management in Kenya, legal air quality framework and move towards comprehensive clean air plans and actions and accelerated actions towards fuel and vehicle standards and upscaling electric mobility.
CSE-NEMA collaboration dates back to March 2016 and since then four Pan-Africa workshops have been oragnised, the recent being the September 17-18, 2024 which brought together a network of African regulators for benchmarking, knowledge and best practice sharing on clean air and climate issues. NEMA is a valuable member organisation of our ‘Pan Africa Network for Clean Air Solutions’. NEMA’s active and engagement with the network has been very encouraging and enriching with participation of several NEMA officials in our workshops/consultations/training workshops organised from time to time in Nairobi, Zanzibar, Dar es Salaam, and India.
