Strengthening FSSM in Uttar Pradesh

Sarim, with an experience of over 04 years is currently working as Program Officer with Centre for Science and Environment. He has been a mainstay of CSE’s program on abatement of pollution in Ganga Towns in Uttar Pradesh (UP), India. As a part of Programme Support Unit in Lucknow, he works closely with Department of Urban Development, UP in providing technical support to the state in the field of Faecal Sludge and Wastewater Management. His role revolves around engaging, monitoring and Supporting SBM and AMRUT initiatives at the state level. He also works closely with towns in providing technical support- planning, assessment and guidance in Facilitating & executing different schemes and projects at the town level. His areas of interest include- field level research work on inclusion, economics of desludging services, co-treatment, interception & Diversion STPs, capacity building of different stakeholders. He holds a Master’s degree in Environment Engineering and Bachelors in Civil Engineering. He is Passionate about working in sanitation sector with inclusion and technical solutions as its core.

Alka is currently working as a Programme Officer at the Centre for Science and Environment. She has a master's degree in engineering and environmental science. She is both GATE and NET qualified with a postgraduate diploma in industrial safety and management and over five years of experience working in the water and sanitation sector. She has worked on solid-liquid waste management initiatives in addition to assessing water and waste water samples. She has supported SBM, Swachh Survekshan, and AMRUT efforts while working in close collaboration with the governments of states like Uttarakhand, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh on rural and urban projects related to water and sanitation.

Hari is an Architect-Urban Planner with over 9 years of experience. He is currently working with the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) to support the Department of Urban Development (DoUD) in Uttar Pradesh in advancing safe, sustainable, and citywide inclusive sanitation across all urban local bodies in the state. His work involves research, policy development, advocacy, capacity building, and technical support. Previously, he has worked with advisory and research organizations such as the National Institute of Urban Affairs and Ernst & Young, assisting the governments of Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Punjab in planning housing, water and sanitation services.

Harsh is a passionate environmentalist committed to addressing critical issues in drinking water, sanitation, and wastewater management. With over 8 years of experience in the WASH sector, he has been instrumental in driving sustainable solutions.

His expertise is evident in his work with the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), where he has provided technical assistance to Bijnor City under the FSSM initiative. He has also played a pivotal role in CSE's SFD initiative, contributing to capacity building efforts both nationally and internationally. Currently stationed at CSE-PSU Lucknow, Harsh Yadava is actively engaged in supporting several towns in Uttar Pradesh to operationalize treatment infrastructure for faecal sludge and septage, while also promoting comprehensive FSSM practices. His areas of interests includes: Action-based field research; Urban water demand and supply analysis; Treater wastewater recycling; Inclusive sanitation approaches.

Manish is working for CSE PSU as a technical coordinator in the water and sanitation field and is stationed at the Lucknow. He has worked on Shit Flow Diagrams (SFD) in various cities in India and delivered training on the preparation of SFD. He was stationed at Chunar TSU for more than 3 years for close monitoring and tech support. He is currently working towards ensuring city-wide inclusive sanitation and this will include intensive support to 4-5 cities.

He has pursued Master's degree in Statistics and M.Tech in Civil Environment Engineering.
