The Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF), draft notification S.O. 195 (E) dated 19th January 2009, proposes to make certain changes in the Environment Impact Assessment Notification, 2006.
Introductory Para There is a clear lack of ambition in the strategies proposed. In case of renewable energy, for instance, the goal proposed even for the 'aggressive effort scenario' is far lower than what has been proposed in the National Action Plan for Climate Change.
Hell broke lose when the Union Ministry of Environment and Forests issued the January 19 2009 draft notification of Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) rules to exclude construction projects including the housing projects, commercial and retail construction that are less than 50,000 sq. mt. of built-up area from the ambit of the Environment Impact Assessment and the Environment Protection Act 1986.
Change begins in our own home – with little steps. What can each one of us do to green our homes? How can we reduce the energy and water use of our buildings, our living? How do we know what works and how? There are a range of products, fixtures etc. that are today extensively available for us to select and use. What is required is the right intent and knowledge.
There is little doubt that the urbanization in India would continue to grow, as would be the growth of buildings and construction sector.
