The best way to bring about change is to learn, and to apply that learning judiciously. The Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), the world’s largest sanitation drive, has paved the way for India’s urban managers -- local governments, civil society, industry partners, etc -- to equip themselves with the capacity to understand and implement the nuances of circular economy in managing solid waste in an environmentally sustainable and financially viable manner.
Since 2021, when SBM 2.0 began, Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) has partnered with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India to build capacities of all stakeholders for strengthening the Mission’s implementation on the ground. Under this partnership, officials of over 450 urban local bodies and 39 nongovernment entities have undergone intensive residential training in CSE’s green campus - Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute (AAETI)– and many of them have been able to implement the learnings in their respective fields and zones.
To celebrate the progress of SBM 2.0 and showcase the good work done the training recipients, CSE is organising a one-day event, The Changemakers’ Conclave, in New Delhi, which will be attended by representatives from nearly 100 ULBs and non-governmental entities from 24 states and UTs.
Physical participation in the event is only by invitation.
A celebration of good practices under Swachh Bharat Mission in urban solid waste management.
An assembly of representatives from 100 urban local bodies that have triggered transformation in India’s cities. From 24 states and Union territories, from all over the country.
