In 2023, the University Grants Commission (UGC) released an updated curriculum framework for environment education at the undergraduate level. This document is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s vision of holistic and interdisciplinary education. It aims to equip students to understand and respond to global environmental crises such as climate change, biodiversity loss, waste management, etc. It also places emphasis on field work and community engagement, encouraging students to explore environmental issues within their contexts and work out solutions for them.
In the May edition of the monthly CSE-GEN lectures, we explored the stance of NEP 2020 towards environment education and how the updated UGC syllabus will shape classroom teaching. Taking the discussion forward, we bring you this three-session series which will examine specific topics in the syllabus in greater detail and equip teachers with the appropriate resources to take these ideas to the classroom.
