Report card: Environmental governance under two years of NDA government

Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), has reviewed the performance of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government at the end of its two years in office on measures of environmental governance, particularly as undertaken by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC). CSE analysis focuses on some key areas which have remained matters of discussions and debates- including green clearances, industrial pollution control and monitoring, air pollution, waste management, cleaning Ganga, proposed reforms for forest governance and climate change. One sector that has had a big impact on climate as well as public health and air quality is urban transport. In India, especially over the past decade, rapid and rampant motorisation has enhanced the risks of air pollution.
