'Poor maintenance may lead to failure of Behrampur STP'

GURGAON, April 13: The Behrampur sewage treatment plant is underperforming because of poor maintenance and if things don't improve soon, it can damage the entire plant, according to a HUDA inspection report. Govt defies HC on scrap market order

NASHIK, April 12: The Bombay high court had ordered that the scrap market on Ambad-Satpur Link Road be demolished by March 31, but the state government sent a letter to the civic administration during the last week of March, granting an extension of the deadline by two months. Read More

Shimla grappled with untreated sewerage: CAG

SHIMLA, April 12: The queen of hills and capital of Himachal Pradesh grappling with the problem of untreated sewerage leading to water contamination as open sewer lines are resulting into environment pollution. The state government had spent Rs 91.05 crore to provide pollution-free environment and to check the contamination of water sources at disposal points, but the objective has remained unachieved, according to the latest report of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG).

Mumbai likely to get agency to protect environment

MUMBAI, April 10: The civic body has proposed an environment protection agency, in a move that could change the way environment in the city is protected. The proposal, prepared by the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) environment department, will be sent to theMaharashtra Pollution Control Board, under whose aegis it functions. 

SC nod to test-burning of Carbide waste

New Delhi, April 10: The Environment Ministry has got an approval from the Supreme Court to direct the Madhya Pradesh government to allow a test incineration of the toxic waste of Union Carbide factory that led to the Bhopal gas tragedy in 1984.

High-tech machines to check water quality

NOIDA, April 8: To monitor water quality in the city, Regional Pollution Control Board (RPCB) of Gautam Budh Nagar has imported two hi-tech machines from Germany that will detect the presence of pollutants in industrial effluents and identify harmful bacteria transferred to water from other sources. Automatic testing through these machines would yield more accurate results as compared to manual testing.
