Low turn out marks proposed Malom oil depot hearing

IMPHAL, October 10: A public hearing on the proposed P.O.L depot at Malom was held today at the ground of Megha Government High School at Malom. The hearing was attended by Th. Chitra Devi, additional magistrate Imphal west as chairperson of the panel members and K. Jagadishwor Singh member secretary Manipur Pollution Control Board (MPCB) Priobhash Dey, general manager Indian Oil Co-orperation and N. Minaketan Singh, senior environment engineer, Manipur Control Board, as panel members.

Bangalore, October 8: The Karnataka State Human Rights Commission (KSHRC) has issued notices to the Urban Development Department and the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) on the reported inflow of polluted water into the Tippagondanahalli (TG Halli) reservoir, and has sought a detailed report on the matter. Go toward the light, says state govt

Mumbai, October 9: With only about two weeks left for Diwali, the state Environment Ministry is yet to organise a meeting with firecracker manufacturers and retailers to help promote light-emitting crackers over sound-emitting ones in a bid to promote an eco-friendly Diwali. This, after various NGOs approached the ministry to reduce the permitted decibel levels for crackers, revealed state environment secretary Valsa Nair Singh. Read More

Action plan for Bhima basin inches forward

PUNE, October 8: The Rs-800 crore action plan for the Bhima river basin has moved forward with the state environment ministry assigning the Maharashtra Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd (MUIDCL) to prepare a detailed project report for its execution within four months. The report will look at cohesive implementation of the plan, and will help draw funds from various agencies, including the Union government. Read More
