Bangalore bats for eco-friendly Ganeshas

BANGALORE, August 22: If the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike's (BBMP) plans are implemented, think twice before picking up the glossy, shining Ganesha idols glaring at you. The Palike is planning to impose ban on immersion of Plaster of Paris idols in their tanks.Deputy Mayor S Harish visited some of the manufacturing units in Bangalore on Saturday. On his visit, he noted that most of these manufacturers use Plaster of Paris and glossy paints to make the idols, which are harmful to the lakes.

HC questions Mahagenco, MPCB on fly ash pollution

NAGPUR, August 20: Taking serious cognisance of pollution due to fly ash at Koradi and Kamptee, the Nagpur bench of Bombay High Court on Thursday sternly asked Mahagenco and Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) to file detailed affidavits on their efforts to dispose it of within two weeks. 

Oil spill may reach Juhu, Uran, Thane creek

Mumbai, August 10: Tar balls were reported from two more beaches of Mumbai and from a beach at Alibaug on Tuesday but the authorities said the oil spill from the sunken vessel m.v. High Court comes to Periyar river's rescue

 KOCHI, August 10: The Kerala High Court on Tuesday appointed an Advocate Commission to look into the issue of pollution in the Periyar. The single-member commission consisting of advocate P A Jacob was appointed by the High Court on the basis of a contempt of court petition filed by Eloor-based NGO Green Action Force. Read More

Plans afoot to reduce pollution in Indrayani river

 PUNE, August 8: After taking steps to curb pollution in the Bhima river basin, the district administration has now focused on pollution in the Indrayani river. A private firm has being asked to prepare a pre-feasibility survey report. Based on the report, the administration will prepare an action plan. 

Ensure no untreated sewage in river Ganga: HC

Allahabad, Aug 5: A division bench consisting of Justice Ashok Bhushan and Justice Arun Tandon directed the UP Pollution Control Board to make surprise inspection of chrome recovery plants, common effluent treatment plants, combined sewage pumping stations and sewage treatment plant at Kanpur at least once a week and send a report of inspection to the managing director, UPPCU, UP Jal Nigam Kanpur and other concerned authorities and file a copy of the same in the court regularly.
