Background

CSE - aims to establish policy principles, innovative technologies, and implementation strategies for city wide water and sanitation management, which will lay the foundations for a water and waste-prudent society. CSE also assists Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India and National Mission Clean Ganga in mainstreaming reforms and capacity building of state/city officials. Recently 30 cities have joined the River City Alliance promoted by National Mission Clean Ganga (NMCG) in partnership with National Institute of Urban Affairs. This training is organized by CSE as key capacity building partner assisting NMCGs – River Cities Alliance initiative with NIUA.

CSE as Centre of Excellence in sustainable water management area assisting the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has developed Practitioner’s Guides on key thematic areas namely - Water Sensitive Urban Design and Planning, Green Infrastructure, Septage Management (including wastewater), Urban Water Efficiency and Conservation as well as template on Urban WaterSustainability to help cities design and implement water – river sensitive strategies.

The training will help cities develop Urban River Management Plan (URMP) as per guidelines on River Centric Planning (prepared by TCPO& NIUA)as well as identify areas of intervention as per Practitioners’ Guide on Water Sensitive Urban Design and Planning (prepared by CSE) released by Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India.

The training cum workshop will provide help state / municipal functionaries to identify, designandimplement appropriateinterventionsbest suited to respective cities at various scales that can be incorporated in Master Plans (including Development Plans/ Zonal Plan, Area Development Plan cum Infrastructure Development schemes) or the Citywide Water – Sanitation Plans to be prepared by each local body under various national urban missions – namely AMRUT 2.0. SBM 2.0 and others.   

Aim

Capacity building of municipal functionaries in developing implementable action plan for mainstreaming river – water centric planning in urban design and planning of cities.

Training Highlights

  • Concept and approach for preparing urban river management plan and action plan for making cities water sensitive
  • Identification of problems , challenges and potential areas of intervention to fix the broken water cycle in cities
  • Prepare action plan (short / medium /long term) for integrating elements URMP & WSUDP into existing or upcoming Master Plans at different scales – city/region, neighbourhood and individual.
  • Develop strategies for stakeholder engagement and community participation
  • Interact and learn from real implementers and beneficiaries of successfully implemented WSUDP interventions in India and abroad.
  • Update on existing and upcoming institutional regulatory framework (policies, plan and programmes) for implementing URMP & WSUDP interventions.

Training Design:

The training will follow a Harvard Case method approach involving in-class exercises, interactive discussions.  The participants will have opportunity to step by step prepare a ‘Model URMP and Action Plan for WSUDP’ in the ‘Do It Yourself’ – groupexercises during the training. 

Participants will be awarded a Certificate of Completion upon successful completion of the training programme.

Training Fees
No training fees.

Boarding & Lodging will be taken care by organisers for all registered participants.

Single room accommodation will be provided to all participants.

Participants have to make own arrangements to arrive at Delhi on 10th Jan (11.00am) and should make return travel arrangement on 12th Jan. 2022 (after 6pm).

Local travel arrangement for all participants – from Delhi to AAETI, Nimli Training centre to and fro (by road in coach or cabs) will be done by organisers.

Female participants are encouraged to apply and will be given preference.
