Training on Sustainable Grey Water Management and Reuse at Community Level- Training 3 (JalJeevan Mission)

Date: March 7 - 8, 2022

A two day - virtual training program on “Sustainable grey water management and reuse at community level”, was conducted between March 7 - 8, 2022, on Zoom platform by Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), New Delhi. This was done under CSE’s work as Key Resource Centre under JalJeevan Mission, Ministry of Jal Shakti. This is second set of training on this topic.

The training was specially designed for officials of Middle Management level – Level 3.

The objectives of this training program were as follows:

  • Understand the basics and issues related to Grey water Management in context of JalJeevanMIssion.
  • Understanding the need of grey water treatment.
  • Grey water treatment criteria, use of technologies
  • Understanding the pollutant level in grey water, impact of use of undertreated water
  • Planning and designing of treatment technologies available for grey water treatment
  • To understand how to locate the treatment location at village/cluster level
  • Community level grey water Management
  • Reuse of grey water
  • Sourcing of fund mechanism

The speakers of the training were from Ministry of Jal Shakti, Centre for Science and Environment, Nirmal Gram Nirman Kendra, Indian Institute of Technology – Madaras, and BORDA – SA.

There were in total 154 nominations received for the training program. The participants were from eleven states and Union Territories – Assam, West Bengal, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Meghalaya, Jharkhand, Telangana, TamilNadu, Puducherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. On day one 130 participants were present and 94 on day two. 

The participants were mainly engineers, district coordinators, etc., – the composition of participants was as follows:


A need assessment and quiz polls were carried on pre- and post-training. The training received overwhelming response. The participants interacted well with the speakers.
