CSE has signed MoU with DoUD Uttar Pradesh to provide program support for mainstreaming Faecal Sludge and Septage Management (FSSM) to achieve city wide sanitation. CSE has set-up a Programme Support Unit (PSU) in Lucknow and Technical Support Units (TSUs) in Bijnor and Chunar city. The idea is to support by facilitating and handholding the state and city-level agencies in planning, creating operating guidelines and enabling frameworks, as well as designing and executing FSSM practices in cities across the state of Uttar Pradesh. In addition to this, CSE is committed to build capacities of state officials, decision makers and other stakeholders involved in the implementation of city, state and national level sanitation program.

Technical Support Unit- Bijnorin assosiation with Nagar PalikaParishad organised a three days training programme on ‘Designing and construction of Onsite Sanitation Systems’ for masons working in the municipal boundary of the city. The objective is to develop the skills of workers in designing ideal onsite sanitation systems as per BIS code for safe management of excreta at the containment stage of the sanitation value chain. Mr. Shubhash Dhakad, an independent and experienced OSS trainer from Rajasthan, facilitated the training along with CSE trainers by providing sessions to the masons on learning designing and constructing an improved septic tank and pit latrine.

Bijnor Nagar Palika Parishad provided two different sites for conducting training and practical sessions. The training was inaugurated by MrGowind Singh Chowdhary - Sanitation and Food Inspector of city. In total 21 masons participated in this training. The first half of training was consumed in providing theoretical knowledge to masons with help of videos, vocational forms and engaging activities. During the lectures, the participants were given overview on the need and necessity of following correct design of OSS as per BIS code. Sessions were followed with interesting debates between the trainers and the masons as they had firm believe on their way of constructing septic tanks. Masons were explained about the need of including the factor of health and hygiene while constructing septic tanks and twin pits. The second half sessions included the implementation of the learning on ground by constructing the septic tank and twin pit latrine in Numaish Ground. Masons participated all three days in both the sessions with full enthusiasm.

On third day of training, the construction of an improved toilet having one side connection with twin pits and another side connection with septic tank along with a soak pit was completed by masons under the guidance of trainers. The learning-by-doing approach was appreciated by all the participants, members of Nagar Palika Parishad and the MrShamshad Ansari, chairman of city, who was also the chief guest during the training.
