Industrialization in India has played a significant role in shaping the country’s economic landscape and accounts for 20-25 % of India’s GDP. While industrial growth is vital for economic development, ensuring its environmental sustainability is equally crucial.
Properly planned industrial infrastructure can mitigate adverse impacts on natural resources, ecosystems, and communities by promoting efficient resource use, pollution control, and reduced ecological footprints. This aligns with global and national efforts to address environmental challenges, including climate change.
Sustainable industrial infrastructure incorporates green technologies, renewable energy systems, and resource-efficient processes, enabling the mitigation of air, water, and soil pollution. It supports circular economy principles by fostering waste reduction, recycling, and sustainable waste management. Strategically located and designed industrial zones prevent unregulated growth, protecting biodiversity and ensuring harmonious integration with the surrounding environment. Well-developed master plans not only enhance industrial competitiveness but also contribute to broader regional and national sustainability goals.
Recognizing the importance of this subject, the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) is organizing a three-day training programme on “Developing Environmentally Sustainable Infrastructure for Industrial Areas” from February 18 to 21, 2024. The programme will include expert lectures, hands-on exercises and experience-sharing sessions, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills required to plan and implement sustainable industrial infrastructure.
