A 5-day training programme was conducted at Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute (AAETI), Tijara, Rajasthan from 04th to 08th December 2017 for participants of Department of Water Supply & Sanitation (DWSS), Punjab. The training was titled “Environmental Safeguards”. A total of 25 DWSS officials attended this programme. The training focused on environmental and social (E&S) issues related to water supply and sanitation in the rural areas and how these issues can be addressed. The training was conducted jointly by the Environmental and Social Assessment team and the Water Policy team. The major topics covered during this training programme include Environmental and social issues associated with water supply and sanitation, and applicable policies and regulatory framework; Rural drinking water supply including source sustainability and augmentation, rural sanitation including toilet technologies, waste management including solid and liquid waste management in the rural areas, and surveillance, monitoring and reporting to ensure compliance to environmental and social safeguards.
Besides the classroom work, the participants were taken to visit various rural sites to see the ground level implementation of such projects and learn from practical demonstrations.
