A decade ago, economies around the world largely followed a linear model—starting with resource extraction, followed by processing, consumption, and finally, disposal into the environment. This approach not only exerted significant pressure on natural resources but also had adverse environmental impacts. Besides being a capital-intensive process, the availability of resources is also a critical concern.
With the emergence of the concept of a circular economy, the global focus is shifting towards reusing and recycling waste as an alternative resource.According to the Circularity Gap Report, only 7.2% of the global economy is circular. The circular economy operates on the principle that ‘waste is not just waste but a valuable resource.’ It is a production and consumption modelwhich involves circularity (sharing, leasing, reusing, repairing, refurbishing and recycling) of existing materials and products as long as possible.
With this background, CSE is organizing a training programme on industrial waste circularity: A framework for Waste Management & Resource Efficiencyduring 3 to 6 June, 2025 at AAETI, Neemli. The training is intended to follow dual mode with the training part highlighting the various aspects of circularity, the limitation and challenges in industrial ecosystem and also showcase the case studies on industrial waste circularity which are already under way in different industrial sectors covering different wastes. The forum will also have panel discussions in workshop mode, focusing on specific wastes and industrial sectors wherein upscaling and capacity building is required in terms of circularity.
