A five-day residential training programme on Social Impact Assessment (SIA) in land acquisitions was conducted at the Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute (AAETI), Alwar, Rajasthan. A total of 8 participants attended the programme. The training covered various topics related to land and its classifications, the need for SIA, land acquisition act, FRA, socio-economic surveys, public consultations, ToR, common property resources and similar. The programme included a site visit for understanding the nuances of village development plan. Additionally, class exercises were conducted to understand the issues of land acquisitions and compensations and R&R.
The participants in the programme were predominantly senior officials from government agencies. Officials were from the state revenue departments of Kerala and Puducherry; other participants were from CIDCO, Maharashtra and National Capital Region Road Transport Corporation (NCRTC), Vardhan Environment (Land use and hydrogeology) and Social Awareness and Action for Development.
