The Sustainable Buildings and Habitat team successfully organised a training on sustainable and affordable housing which witnessed a healthy participation from a diverse set of individuals comprising of 27 government engineers, architects, academia of Planning and Architecture from across the nation.The programme aimed to deepen the participants’ understanding on how to prioritize adaptive thermal comfort, affordability and energy efficiency in the housing stock being developed currently.
The training sessions dealt with a diverse range of subjects like urbanisation, affordable housing shortage, definitions of affordability, Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY), affordable housing finance, resource efficiency, thermal comfort parameters, energy efficiency, environmental governance, energy efficient building design, building materials, circular economy, Energy Conservation Building Code Residential (Eco-Niwas Samhita) and building energy simulations.
Multiple sector experts and ground implementors like Dr. Neelima Risbud, HOD Housing, SPA Delhi on housing polices, Dr. Renu Khosla from CURE on decentralized systems for basic services, Dr. Akshaya kumara Sen from HUDCO on housing finances and Mr. Akshay Gupta, a green building expert on energy efficient design enriched the training program by providing strategies and a way forward to integrate with the larger urban development agenda.
The participants were also given a tour of the AAETI campus to demonstrate cost effective and sustainable techniques to design and develop a green educational campus under its ‘Green Campus’ Initiative. The topics covered during the 4-day training program greatly enhanced the participants understanding of the green building features incorporated into the campus.
At the end of the training programme, many participants showed interest in implementing the knowledge gathered at the training in their respective fields of profession and appreciated the CSE team for the well curated content.
