The workshop is open to journalists and students of journalism working on/ with a specific interest in local environmental and development issues.
The focus will be on the state of the thermal power plants in Andhra Pradesh, Telangana?, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have an installed coal based power generation capacity of 10492.5 MW and a proposed capacity of 25290 MW. Tamil Nadu has a current capacity 9.5 GW and a proposed capacity of 43 GW. ?The current capacity of Karnataka is 6329.51 MW while the proposed capacity is 3360 MW . ?A recent green rating review by CSE found power plants flouting many environmental norms, and causing enormous damage to the environment while causing great risk to people’s health.
There are only 25 seats in the workshop and will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis. There is no participation or registration fee and all expenses related to travel, boarding and lodging etc. are covered.
