CSE, under its MoU with the Department of Urban Development (DoUD), Uttar Pradesh provides support to the state as Programme Support cum Knowledge partner in its ongoing efforts on improved urban sanitation under various national and state programmes - in particular on effective Faecal Sludge and Septage Management (FSSM ) for citywide sanitation and improved health of rivers and various water bodies. CSE has developed FSSM guidelines and supported DoUD for mainstreaming effective FSSM. As envisaged in the national FSSM policy, Uttar Pradesh state has also prepared a State FSSM policy released in the year 2019.
This was followed with commencement of floating of tenders and subsequent construction of several Faecal Sludge & Septage Treatments plants as well as co-treatment of FSS at existing / upcoming sewage treatment across the state to be completed in a time bound manner - under AMRUT / Namami Gange programme. At present, the state has 3 operational FSTPs (including one supported by CSE at Chunar, commenced trial run in March 2021). As on June 2021 – Faecal Sludge treated across various FSTPs/ co-treated at STP is 114.6 million litres is reported.
