Webinar on Leading practices of operationalizing FSSM in Uttar Pradesh
Background
Under the flagship programmes of government of India (AMRUT, SBM, NMCG) many FSTP/Co-treatment plants are being built and commissioned across India for safe management of faecal sludge. Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh,62 FSTP/Co-treatment plants are being constructed of which 40 plants are ready to operate. However, urban local bodies are facing challenges in operationalizing the FSSM service by streamlining desludging services, setting-up regulations and monitoring protocols, operation and maintenance of the plants, community participation etc. This results into sub-optimal utilization of the infrastructure, in addition to the adverse impact on the environment.
Purpose and Aim
The webinar is aimed to bring together the successful case examples from Uttar Pradesh which will help small and medium towns for managing faecal sludge and septage management at city level. It will present the experiences from Chunar, Bijnor and Jhansi, various challenges faced and the approach adopted by them to overcome for safe and sustainable septage management.

The webinar was attended by 58 participants, which includes UP government officials, national & international sectors experts, NGOs, academia, and officials from different states.
At the start, Mr PK Srivastava and MrSubrataChakraborty set the context of the webinar by explaining the current challenges in operationalizing septage management. It was followed by the presentation by Harsh Yadava, Hari Prakash Haihyvanshi and Manish Mishra. Webinar was concluded with the question & answer session.
