About the Webinar Series
Centre for Science and Environment (CSE) in partnership with the Cooperative Research Centre for Water Sensitive Cities (CRCWSC) and Alluvium International (Alluvium) are organising a two-part webinar series on 'Towards Water Sensitive Cities - Approach and Practices in Australia and India'. The webinar series, sponsored by the Victorian Government, aims to increase awareness and advocate for the planning and design of water sensitive cities in India, and to share experiences from both countries.
Background
Australia has been on a journey in transitioning to ‘Water Sensitive Cities’ over the last two decades. The Australian State of Victoria and its capital Melbourne are known internationally for its liveability which is underpinned by a world leading approach to delivering a water sensitive city. India is embarking on ambitious plans to transform its urban environments. A water sensitive approach can enhance liveability and other outcomes in cities across India.
CSE, CRCWSC and Alluvium have entered into a Knowledge Partnership in 2020 with the aim to share research and practical experience on Water Sensitive Cities between Australia and India. The CRCWSC and Alluvium are two lead contributing organisations in Australia which envision future cities and towns, and their regions, to be sustainable, resilient, liveable and water sensitive. The CRCWSC publication Transitioning to water sensitive cities - Insights from six Australian cities identifies the strategic priorities for Australian cities to achieve their Water Sensitive Cities visions. CSE-SWW has also recently published India’s first Practitioner’s Guide on Water Sensitive Urban Design and Planning (WSUDP) in 2017, as part of its knowledge support to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India in the area of sustainable urban water management.
This two-part webinar series is the first to be offered under the Knowledge Partnership. It will cover the latest WSUDP and Water Sensitive Cities tools, techniques and approaches, and exemplar projects and programs from Australia and India. Key speakers from Australia will also present on cutting edge work on the application of Water Sensitive City approaches in India.
