Energy access in rural India has been a development priority for the government for many decades.
However, 45 percent of rural households lack access to electricity. Although electricity generation has grown at 7 per cent between 2002 and 2013, we are still not able to provide electricity to everyone in the country. There are still more than 77 million people in the country who use kerosene for lighting, 94 per cent of which are part of the rural population. There is still 33 per cent of population who have no access to electricity at all.
We at CSE strongly believe that India needs to end this energy poverty at the earliest and renewable energy based decentralized distributed generation (mini-grid) is the way out. The one-day workshop would deliberate on sustainable mini-grids for energy access.
We hope you will accept our invitation. It is critical that we build consensus on a sustainable mini-grid model along with required policy reforms in order to resolve energy access issues in the country once for all.
Date: Friday, June 27, 2014 (9 AM to 2.00 PM)
Venue: Lecture Room II, Annexe Building, India International Centre, New Delhi
