About the School of Water and Waste (SWW)
CSE's four decades of extensive research work in the water, sanitation and allied sectors and continuous interactions with local and global professionals has helped identify a substantial gap in knowledge and skill building across the country at various levels of operation. Capacity building is essential to facilitate an integrated approach to urban water and sanitation management. The School of Water and Waste (SWW) at CSE - Anil Agarwal Environment Training Insitute (AAETI), Nimli, Rajasthan, India is a capacity building hub for urban water and sanitation sector across the global. At our state-of-art campus AAETI, Neemli, the School offers an interdisciplinary, double loop and cross-country learning tailored to the ground reality of the major problems of the water supply and sanitation sector in the urban landscape.
What we aim to achieve?
The SWW envisions to create a water wise and waste prudent society. It is emerging research and knowledge dissemination hub in India and the global South working towards creating a cadre of water and sanitation professionals. This community of practice will take CSE's efforts forward by developing implementable solutions.
SWW is collecting and documenting case studies of noteworthy and successful green infrastructure and WSUDP implementation worldwide. It intends to bring about a paradigm shift in which WSUDP and GI are widely recognized and embraced. The C-GINS (Compendium of Green Infrastructure network systems) will provide practitioners with guidelines, tools, training and successful case examples to inspire and facilitate the delivery of world-class projects and developments.
PARTNERSHIP BETWEEN CSE AND UWE
With the aim of building a community of practice on GI and a global south centre for Green Infrastructure, advocacy and research, C-GINS (Compendium of Green Infrastructure network) is an attempt towards resourcefulness under the three-year partnership (2019-22) between the Centre for Science and Environment (CSE), India and the University of the West of England, Bristol (UWE Bristol), UK. It is an initiative supported by the Global Challenges Research Fund (GCRF), and the International Water Security Network (IWSN) which is funded by Lloyd's Register Foundation, a charitable foundation helping to protect life and property by supporting engineering-related education, public engagement and the application of research.
This partnership between CSE and UWE Bristol will jointly establish and sustain research, educational, and civic engagement efforts to promote Water Sensitive Design and Planning (WSUDP) and Green Infrastructure (GI) aimed at supporting global water security and safety through ongoing initiatives at both institutes, namely the International Water Security Network (IWSN) at UWE Bristol, and the School of Water and Waste (SWW) at CSE - Anil Agarwal Environment Training Institute (AAETI), Nimli, Rajasthan, India.
